Opportunities Family Public Housing recognizes that many tenants lack some important life skills that will be needed to be a tenant. For this reason classes are arranged by the management staff on a variety of subjects including parenting, household budgeting and household cleaning. Tenants that are having difficulty in one or more of these areas will be required to attend these classes. The classes are offered at no cost to the tenant. Tenants who want to advance themselves and move out of Family Public Housing are encouraged to enroll in the Family Self-Sufficiency Program. This program allows the tenant to build some savings by taking part of their rent and putting it into a savings account that the tenant may use to further their education or to buy a house. The Housing Authority’s Family Self-Sufficiency Coordinator, Kathy Swope works closely with participants in this program to develop an action plan that may include job training and/or higher education. We encourage tenants to participate in this program because one of the goals of Family Public Housing is to see your income increase so that you will be able to afford unsubsidized housing some day. You can reach Kathy Swope at the Family Public Housing Office by calling (717) 245-0516. Family Public Housing is a good place to live. Our apartments and townhouses are within walking distance of stores, services, schools, and parks. The quality of the apartments and townhouses are excellent and they are well maintained and well managed. If you are having trouble making ends meet, Family Public Housing can help with an affordable rent that is based on your income not exceeding the Fair Market Rent. We encourage you to consider Family Public Housing if you are in need of a high quality, affordable, and convenient apartment or townhouse.
