BOROUGH OF SHIPPENSBURG
COMMERCIAL FACADE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
The Shippensburg Commercial Facade Improvement Program was approved by Borough Council to encourage businesses in the downtown target area to upgrade the physical appearance of properties.
The program offers grants equal to 75% of the eligible property improvement cost but no more than $5000. Eligible work items include:
Repainting Brick
Paint Removal (chemical only)
Repointing Masonry
Restoration of Historic Markers
Caulking
Installation of Awnings
Repair or Replacement of Shutters
Repair/Paint Architectural Metals, Handrails and/or Trim
Stabilize/Repair Structural Deficiencies
Repair or Restore Windows
Replacement of Windows with New Windows to match existing in every way
Repair/Replace Storefront
Replace Gutters and Downspouts
Repair/Replace Roof
The Redevelopment Authority of the County of Cumberland staff will prepare written specifications for the work and the Authority staff will assist the owner in soliciting bids from qualified contractors. The owner may select any bid within 110% of the Authority staff’s estimate for the work. The owner will be required to provide the Authority with his/her share of the project cost before the project begins.
*All work undertaken with funds through this program must be considered by the Borough of Shippensburg’s Architectural Review Board and be approved by Borough
Council.
*All work undertaken through this program must meet the Historic Preservation Guidelines of the U.S. Department of Interior
*Owner must repay the loan in full at no interest if the title to the property is transferred. The Borough’s interest shall be filed in the Recorder of Deeds Office of the County of Cumberland.
*Under certain circumstances, commercial wage rates may apply to projects
undertaken with these funds
